Ready, Set, GOATS!

Ok, so I have this janky mono-white goats deck that I’m thinking of taking to the PTQ but I think it needs some (reads: alot) of work. So here’s the list that I have at the moment.

[cardlist][Lands]
16 Plains
2 Springjack Pasture
1 Kabira Crossroads
[/Lands]

[Creatures]
3 Swans of Bryn Argoll
2 Plumeveil
2 Mesa Enchantress
2 Cho-Manno, Revolutionary
2 Springjack Shepherd
1 Flickerwisp
1 Kor Firewalker
1 Paladin en-Vec
1 True Believer
[/Creatures]

[Spells]
3 Oblivion Ring
2 Path to Exile
2 Faiths Fetters
2 Sunspring Expedition
2 Pariah
2 Mirrorweave
2 Holy Day
1 Beacon of Immortality
1 Sigil of the Empty Throne
1 Armored Ascension
1 Ajani Goldmane
1 Wrath of God
1 Prison Term
1 Wheel of Sun and Moon
1 Pacifism
1 Greater Auramancy
1 Otherworldly Journey
1 High Ground
[/Spells][/cardlist]

The basic idea of this deck is to lay out as many white mana symbols onto the board as possible, and basically stalling the board until you land a shepherd and creature heaps of goats and mirrorweave into Swans, pump with Ajani and smash or Armored Ascension a goat and smash face while laughing your self stupid; land a sigil and creature an army of 4/4 Angels; or until you mill your opponent.

Deck interactions:
This deck has some fun (and useful interactions) that I’ll quickly mention here just so you all can see where I’m coming from with these selections.

Pariah and either Cho-Manno, Revolutionary or Swans of Bryn Argoll:
I’m not really a fan of taking damage, so these little combos make me quite happy. The pariah with cho-manna is a bit of an old one, and doesn’t really do anything more prevent damage, but Pariah on the Swans can make for a very milltastic day (especially against decks with no hard removal)

Wheel of Sun and Moon and Sword of The Meek, Thopter Foundry combo:
Enchant opponent, sword of the meek hits there graveyard, back in the deck == no combo 🙂

Those are just 2 little ones that I can think of at the moment.

Either way, any help making this a stronger deck will greatly appreciated (and if anyone happens to have any cards that they could lend, I wont say no to the help :P)

It’s very hard to see what this does. Seems like a control toolkit type deck?

  2. Steve Tuck Says:

So I’ve had a crack at playing with this deck….I’ve made it into more of a martyr proclamation type deck (admittedly not a great deck anyway) and tried to keep the intent of the deck.

This can be made between the cards you and I own.

    3 [card]kabira crossroads[/card]
    2 [card]emeria the sky ruin[/card]
    2 [card]springjack pasture[/card]
    16 [card]plain[/card]

    3 [card]swans of bryn argoll[/card]
    3 [card]springjack sheperd[/card]
    4 [card]martyr of sands[/card]
    3 [card]kami of false hope[/card]
    4 [card]kitchen finks[/card]
    1 [card]felidah soverign[/card]
    1 [card]crovax ascendant hero[/card]

    4 [card]path to exile[/card]
    3 [card]chalice of the void[/card]
    2 [card]ghostly prison[/card]
    2 [card]proclomation of rebirth[/card]
    1 [card]pariah[/card]
    3 [card]wrath of god[/card]
    2 [card]ajani goldmane[/card]
    1 [card]mirrorweave[/card]

a couple of small interactions in this deck are:
    kitchen finks + ajani goldmane
kami of false hope + proclomation of rebirth
emeria the sky ruin + 7 plains +….

other than that i think you need the wrath and paths for against dark depths thopter plus zoo decks
crovax is great against the thopter combo as well as elves and other decks with X/1s
chalice of the void is just good for slowing other decks down.
alternate win condition of felidar soverign alongside the martyr proc combo.
importantly ajani, crovax and mirrorweave can turn your swarm of goats into an army!!!

I was actually going to suggest something similar to what steve suggested. At least I would certainly be cutting all the “do nothing” cards like sunspring, sigil and holy day. Especially when you can replace them with permanents that do the same and have recursion.

I think it’s worth mentioning that Crovax is really good — it shuts down both sides of the Thopter depths combo, and hoses the aggro R/W landfall deck, as well as Elves as Steve said.

Also, is there any reason not to play beteen four and eight fetch lands?

  4. Michael Wybrow Says:

Oh, and forgot to mention… I reckon Runed Halo is worth fitting in main. I increases the W count and blanks enough stuff to be good — Jace, Valakut, etc.

  5. Monty Bowie Says:

Yeah, I had 1 main board Runed Halo, but not when i popped the list up here. If i do play goats, i would probably need 2 borrow a few because I’ve only got the 1.

As for the fetch lands, I have not a single one (excluding gold bordered ones, and even they’re not extended legal cards with black borders :P)

  6. Steve Tuck Says:

so I’ve had a play with a token version of goats:

    4 path to exile
    2 momentry blink
    2 umezawa’s jitte
    3 honour of the pure
    3 specteral procession
    2 ajani goldmane
    1 mirrorweave

    4 steppe lynx
    4 knight of meadowgrain
3 knight of the white orchid
    4 kitchen finks
    3 springjack sheperd
    2 cloudgoat ranger
    1 crovax ascendant hero

    2 springjack pasture
    2 hallowed fountain
    5 plains
    3 windbrisk heights
    4 arid mesa
    4 marsh flats
    2 mutavault

here you can have large goats swinging for the win….or even a cloudgoat if you prefer 🙂
    mutavault is also a goat!

cards I am missing from this deck are…
1 jitte, 1 mutavault, 2 hallowed fountain, 1 crovax, 1 mirrorweave and 3 honor of the pure

and yes that means i have a playset of arid mesa and marsh flats not being used yet.

  7. Monty Bowie Says:

Looks good, lots of white mana symbols 🙂

I was thinking, how well do you think Elspeth would work instead of Cloudgoat Ranger??

And I have 2 mutavaults, 2 mirrorweaves, but none of the other stuff your missing.

I’ll give this list a testing, and if it works well, would I be able to borrow the cards I don’t have off anyone
