Cancon Award

So after the success of Cancon this year….and the likelyhood of returning I decided to create a “Best/Worst of Cancon” award.

The idea behind this is that someone does exceedingly well or failing that has an extremely bad weekend then they will get to brag about or be haunted by it for the rest of the year.

So I plan on getting everyone to vote, tallying the results and then presenting the award to Matt.

….and yes the trophy was made using those Meddling Mages!

Deff Damien Madigan for “Best” with a top 8.

I can think of a few worsts 😆
    – Wet Carpets
    – Jack misregistering his deck
    – meeting at Wallan maccas at 8am WA time!
    – my drafting skilz

I only just noticed the flames in the Meddling Mage art… perhaps Matt was just trying to put them out for us.

Highlights for me was the accommodation, Matt and Daniel playing Warhammer on the plywood and cinderblock table, Damien’s Top 8 (obviously), drafting every evening, playing Robo Rally for the first time, Jack in his “evening gown”, my 11-1 evening draft record, and just generally awesome company and fun and laughter all weekend long.

Some worsts were those weird, young festival dancers who wandered into our room and wouldn’t leave until Damien pretended to be gay, and began cracking onto the annoying one (well, that might have been a best… it sure was funny). My horrible, horrible main event record, and game loss for mistaking Jace’s brainstorm and Preordain (yes, did it in testing too, I know). The night when it rained Matt — i.e., he fell from above next to my bed in the middle of the night (not the other incident).

Still I think this “award” must go to Matt. But I still think it should have been yellow plastic, or a sheet of yellow cellophane sandwiched in front of the cards. 🙂

Bests for me were the great company, Craig’s air conditioning, the nightly drafts, Damien’s success in the PTQ and the look on Michael’s face when he started getting in to the EDH games I made him play.

The worsts have defiantly been outlined here and Matt defiantly deserves the prize.

    Overall a very fun weekend.

Plus I am all for immortalizing the “Matt Story” in trophy form

I really loved coming back to the accomadation to find everyone hammered throwing kamigawa cards at each other (did you ever get round to the rare draft?). Kudos to Damien on the top 8, and didn’t Matt finish quite high in the warhammer too? Listening to Dirk Gently’s Holistic detective agency on the way home was pretty good too.

Worst was when Damien LIED TO ME about my awesome combo of awesome in the rav draft … i may be a little bitter 😉 Also misregistering my deck and the ensueing debarcle.

Also, scott’s spelling errors are pretty good with everyone defiantly doing things!

  5. Damien Madigan Says:

Yeah, we finish the rare drafting on the last day 😉
highllights for me were def my first top 8 and playing about 14hours of cards a day with no side efefects….
worst I think should go to michael for his amazing amount of mulligans, and taking fairies to one of it’s lowest finishes in it’s long and annoying history as a powerhouse deck.
All in all and amazing weekend with matt still a clear winner!!!

It really does have to go to Matt – noone did exceedingly well at mtg or warhammer from what i was told.

    But for Matt:

He managed to come in the top 50% for warhammer after missing 3 out of 8 games (thats pretty damn good)

    and..

he managed to get so wasted that he “marked his territory” inside (so rock bottom)

Matt really deserves the award for both ends of the spectrum!
