I’ll be out of the country for a conference, so will be looking to find a prerelease in Chicago, USA, somewhere.
I guess Chelsea may go one day, if others are going.
You can preregister by emailing your name and DCI number to Russell: ralphey@mtgmelb.com

I will be back in the country on Saturday and as such will only be heading to the SUnday flights. Will play in the morning and jetlag may force me to miss the arvo flight….but i’d like to play in that too.
Anyone wanting a lift up can give me a yell on sat arvo (after the grand final).
Also if anyone opens any fetch lands Michael and I would be seriously interested in borrowing or trading for his pro tour deck!

I’ll probably be going to the Sunday events and I’d like to play in both. Brendan mentioned that he might feel the same way.
Also, if anyone opens one of those mana snakes I would be very interested in trading for them.

Also, for anyone local to Frankston, Games by the beach is doing a Saturday prerelease that could save you the drive into the city if you’re only interested in a single flight. Details are Sealed Deck, 12 noon start, at the store. He didn’t say limited numbers, but there was also YuGiYo supposed to be on so I’d think about calling him/emailing if you plan to go.

Sorry to anyone who wanted a lift on sunday.
I am now stuck in China until Monday. Shit has hit the fan at work.

Sorry to hear that Steve. That sucks the big one.
Don’t worry though, Brendan and I will win all the good cards for you!
I’ll even give you the pointy end of all my cards for free. ‘Cos that what friends are for.

Ah, work! *sigh* Steve, Good luck cleaning the fan, so to speak.
Well, I’m going to have to travel over an hour outside Chicago tomorrow to find a prerelease… what’s wrong with this crazy country. Surely you usually travel into major cities to play in prereleases! Very confused!

as it turns out the the fan is getting cleaned quickly and we can test it tomorrow….yes working sunday too.

Just thought i’d let you guys know sat at glen’s went well. He’s having a release party this coming sat (12 start) pretty sure it’s drafting. As for cards only 1 snake was opened(didn’t know the guy), 2 Sorin’s, and 6 fetch lands. which i’m the proud owner of 4 now 🙂 even got my first wrat….. i mean day of judgement. And most importantly of all. Geoff came out on top!!!
p.s. rereading the last line doesn’t change it 😛

Cool, nice work Jeff!
Well, I got three fetch lands from my prerelease flights here in Illinois. That was the highlight. Got a couple of notable cards but mainly a bunch of awkward rares like [card]Pyromancer Ascension[/card] (with no duplicate spells), [card]Lullmage Mentor[/card] (with one counter… soft counter) and [card]Malakir Bloodwitch[/card] (in a pool with one other black creature (not a vampire) and very few black playables). To add insult to injury, in both flights I opened [card]Nissa Revane[/card] with no [card]Nissas Chosen[/card]s. *sigh* Ended up with average decks with standard creatures and removal, like everyone else, but no real tiebreakers. Went okay, but not worth writing home about. 😉 Still, am getting a feel for the new set, which is the important part.
Interestingly, for those interested in treasure hunting… there were over 120+ boxes (i.e., 20+ cases) of Zendikar opened today, and not a single treasure card was found. Apparently they had an 80 person midnight prerelease though and someone got an [card]Ali from Cairo[/card] in a pack. I can’t quit understand the hype around this—while it is cool people in the US are saying it’s been pushing the box prices up by like 20% which is just plain ridiculous. But then, hey, people spend billions on Tatslotto/Ozlotto tickets, so what do I know!
Damien, I arrive back in Australia at 7am on the morning of Glen’s draft release, so hopefully will come along if not too tired!

I was lucky enough to pull [card]Ob Nixilis, the Fallen[/card] (which is just plain broken in limited) with some good vampires and solid blue to go with, so even though my tie breakers were terrible it was enough to sneak in behind at no. 2. You’ll have to teach me how to link the cards aswell on a little off note. And i’m off to the zoo with the family on saturday, so if you make it let me know how it goes?
I got 2 R/W, 1 G/U, 1 U/R (lands) how bout yourself?

Enjoy the zoo!
I agree on [card]Ob Nixilis, the Fallen[/card]. I lost a round where my opponent had it both games. My deck had some good burn but that doesn’t help once a land has come down. So I basically had no way to deal with it. In the second game I got them to 7 before it hit the board. And then down to 3 before they killed me with it. Infact they couldn’t attack me at all, but didn’t need to. I took 21 damage total from Ob Nixilis’ ability while they just clogged up the board and made sure I could only get the odd point through.
To link to cards, just do [card]Full Card Name[/card] You should leave out the apostophe if the card has one, since it doesn’t work for some reason, e.g. [card]Lim Duls Vault[/card]

Oh and my fetchlands are (95% sure): U/R, G/U and G/B.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Guess who got their password….
Yeah I didn’t get to much exciting. Got two fetch lands B/W and G/U. I was pretty happy with the decks I built particularly the last one but had a bit of bad luck and a few dumb moves. Oh and I lost to Matt….. twice. Yep we got paired twice curse it. Oh the most money card I got was the Foil [card]Misty Rainforest[/card], which is going for stupid money on the E-bay (like 90 bucks). So me thinks that maybe (just maybe) I can cash this sucker in for money or multiple lands or cool stuff (I have always wanted my very own [card]wrath of god[/card]… well [card]day of judgment[/card]).
Anyway I had a lot of fun with the set and I think my favorite card is [card]Bloodchief Ascension[/card]…. well so far I haven’t actually played with it yet.

That’s right… I beat Brendan twice! To add insult to injury I’m pretty sure Brendan’s deck was better than mine both times. Unfortunate. I opened two of the worst card pools I’ve ever seen. I think I own every rare worth 75cents or less in the whole set. I opened 5 rare lands between my two pools but only one of them fetched anything! B/G by the way.
Any way I went 3-1 in the first flight and headed into the final round of the second at 2-1 (after being robbed pretty badly by one of the judges who was playing). Any way I decided in a master stroke to completely redesign my deck for the final round. In a flash of brilliance I observed that EVERYONE I had seen was looking at a slow format and that NO ONE would be able to defend against a weaker but quicker deck.
I stripped my deck of all my big powerful creatures and went with a super aggressive, triple [card]Adventuring Gear[/card] hasty deck that ran out of puff on turn 3.
Exited I faced my final opponent. I won the dice roll. I drew my cards, damn, mulligan. No problem I’ll still have the element of surprise. Damn, mulligan! Don’t panic, 5 cards I’ll snow him under my aggressive offence. 5 land hand! have to keep……………………………………………………..
He laid a creature on turns 1 through 4 and brutally killed my first 2 drops. Very nice. Yep I had run into the only person running a quick deck I had seen all day. He had all the vampires at every mana cost including the stupidly good [card]Vampire Nighthawk[/card], [card]Gatekeeper of Malakir[/card] and just to make it fair a [card]Malakir Bloodwitch[/card]! He also cast 3 [card]Hideous End[/card] at some point.
Needless to say that when we went to one game all I generously offered him a draw.
I was in mid-diatribe, whinging to Brendan when I opened a [card]Lotus Cobra[/card] in my second last pack. I then went quiet. For a bit
