Brown Ring Fiend
So here’s a deck list I’ve currently got in the works (just need the fetch lands and I’m done) for the nationals qualifier this weekend. As always, I’ve picked a very family friendly name for the deck 😛
So here’s the list (Also up on this site):
[cardlist title=”Brown Ring Fiend”][Lands]
6 Mountain
5 Forest
3 Arid Mesa
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Misty Rainforest
2 Verdant Catacombs
1 Raging Ravine
1 Rootbound Crag
[/Lands]
[Creatures]
4 Kiln Fiend
4 Elvish Visionary
4 Plated Geopede
2 Bloodbraid Elf
[/Creatures]
[Spells]
4 Harrow
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Colossal Might
3 Staggershock
3 Vines of Vastwood
2 Violent Outburst
2 Flame Slash
2 Preys Vengeance
1 Sarkhan Vol
[/Spells]
[Sideboard]
3 Heat Ray
3 Naturalize
3 Souls Fire
3 Unstable Footing
3 Ricochet Trap
[/Sideboard][/cardlist]
Fairly basic deck to figure out, smack with creatures that get fat, burn to kill stuff and a few other spells to help it all flow together.
So, any suggestions for this monstrosity?? Also, as per usual, I was wondering if anyone could help out with fetchlands??
Thanks,
–Monty

are you not playing 4 bloodbraid because you don’t have them? harrow seems un-needed, could just be 4 more burn spells?
i’ve also got 2 [card]kargan dragonlord[/card] i’m not using if you want to work them into your deck. They are really good shit 😈

I agree with Damien — it’s criminal not to play four bloodbraids. Also, I’d play four raging ravines. I’m sure people can help with those. I think I can’t lend fetchlands as I think I’ll be playing my red ones, and I think lending my Jund deck to Brendan, but he may have some spare fetches, and I’m sure we have them between all of us. Also, don’t like flame slash because it’s a sorcery. Could you play another staggershock and burn spell instead.

am actually a fan of flame slash…..kills wall of omens, bloodwitch, rhox warmonk and other nasties.
The sorcery side isn’t so bad in a deck using kiln fiend.
I’m worried you have too much creature pump for hte amount of creatures. Also bloodbraid elf into a pump spell with an empty board is pretty average

Harrow seems a little out of place here. The deck doesn’t seem to benefit from ramp too much, apart from Geopede which winds up getting the same amount of pump from a vines. I guess you can also hit Raging Ravine a turn earlier too. I can’t see it being good taking a turn to harrow in a deck that needs to get damage through.
Bloodbraid into pump on an empty board does suck righteously but it can be a massive blowout too (Scott used to do it to me. Grrr). I would be worried about having kicker mana up for vines off cascade also (turn five bloodbraid isn’t quite so purdy if you always have to wait, just in case). I have found myself waiting with ruinblaster.
Speaking of which, play ruinblaster!
Looks like the kind of deck i have been struggling to beat.
Finally a wacky idea (i know how you like those). You can run eight fetch lands finding blue … distortion strike?

Damien: Yes, its because i dont have them, I’m borrowing to 2 that are in the deck. And I wouldn’t mind fitting them in somewhere coz they are awesome. But I’m gonna try guides first i think.
Michael: I agree with the raging ravines call, they are a really solid card but yet again, only have the 1 borrowed one.
Tucky: Wall Of Omens == my main reason for flame slash, it seems like such an important card for any deck running white that I want to be able to kill it straight up, bonus pumpin the fiend and bashing 🙂 and yeah, maybe killing off some of my pump for some creatures would be good (and dropping vol asmuch as i like him)
Jack: With a geopede and a fiend out its loads of fun harrowing, and its not bad 2 thing out my deck a bunch, but yeah, could run explore instead possibly, draw a card and possibly drop 2 raging ravines in 1 turn which could be nasty. And ruinblaster isn’t a bad idea, i was toying around between the ruinblaster or roiling terrain, i was thinking the roiling terrain might just be better because its got more game against things like boros or mono decks that run fetches, and also kill a CC with it and then deal the damage to sayyyy jace, BAM! thats janktastic!
